Valentine’s Day dances: 16 things to do in metro Atlanta this weekend

Now that the Super Bowl's over, you may find yourself looking for something do in metro Atlanta this weekend. From early Valentine's Day events for families to a family hike, there's plenty to do in Cobb, DeKalb, North Fulton and Gwinnett.

"I Love You Because." Dates include 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8. $25 and up. Lyric Studio on the Square (formerly The Alley Stage), 12 Powder Springs St., Marietta. 678-664-9343.

Marietta Theatre Company presents a modern take on "Pride and Prejudice," complete with feel-good music and romantic suspense.

Dancing with the Stars of Marietta. 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9. $20 and up. The Earl and Rachel Smith Strand Theatre, 117 N. Park Square, Marietta.

Watch Marietta's version of "Dancing with the Stars" as five teams of local celebrities compete for the coveted mirror ball trophy. Proceeds from the event benefit the Georgia Metropolitan Dance Theatre.

Valentine's Day Dance Party. 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9. $15 per person. Ben Robertson Community Center, 2753 Watts Drive, Kennesaw. 770-422-9714.

At this family-friendly Valentine's party, all adults must be accompanied by a child and vice versa. A professional DJ will play tunes so you can dance, and you'll also be treated to an all-you-can-eat dinner and dessert bar and character entertainment.

Daddy-Daughter Dance. 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9. $25 for residents, $35 for non-residents, additional daughter fees are $10 for residents and $15 for non-residents. Smyrna Community Center, 200 Village Green Circle SE, Smyrna. 678-631-5540.

A Candy Land-themed daddy-daughter dance is a good chance to spend quality time together as you enjoy a DJ, crafts, photo booth, snacks and more.

Decatur Library Book Sale. 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9. 215 Sycamore St., Decatur. 404-370-3070.

Head inside the Decatur Library to the ground floor, where you can browse through thousands of books at bargain prices. All proceeds benefit the library's programs and collections.

DeKalb School of the Arts: Triumphant Women Winter Dance Concert. 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10. $4 for DSA students, $6 for other students, $12 for adults. Kyle Theater, 1192 Clarendon Ave., Avondale Estates. 678-676-2502.

Celebrate the work of women choreographers at this year's DeKalb School of the Arts dance concert. Works include "The Firebird," "Negro Spirituals," "Fellowship" and "Conga Blue."

The With or Without You 5K and the Love Bug 1K. 5 p.m. 1K and 5:30 p.m. 5K. Saturday, Feb. 9. $20 and up. Brook Run Park, 4770 N. Peachtree Road, Dunwoody.

Run in the 5K as a single or as a couple (with a spouse, significant other, child, etc.), with the little ones trying the 1K. You can even renew your vows with an ordained minister onsite. All participants get a box of chocolates, shirt and medal, and the 5K is an official AJC Peachtree Road Race qualifier.

Yoga on the Farm. 2:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8. $10 donation. Donaldson-Bannister Farm, 4831 Chamblee Dunwoody Road, Dunwoody.

Head to the farm to take a yoga class taught by certified instructor Geri Magee. Bring a mat and wear comfortable clothing.

North Fulton

Family Night Hike and Campfire. 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9. $12 general public, $10 Chattahoochee Nature Center members. Chattahoochee Nature Center, 9135 Willeo Road, Roswell. 770-992-2055 for advance mandatory.

Explore the Nature Center's woods in the dark as you gaze up as the stars. You can also gather 'round the campfire and roast marshmallows.
