Touch a Truck and More Festival: 16 things to do this weekend in Atlanta

Whether you're still prepping for back to school or a 5K, the events in Atlanta this weekend will get you started on the right foot.

Just about every county has a 5K taking place, along with a wide array of other events the whole family will enjoy. From truck shows to back-to-school bashes, there's a little something for everyone.

So, lace up those sneakers and get ready to run the town.

Here’s what you won’t want to miss this weekend in Atlanta:


Hero Run 5K 2017. 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5. $30 per racer, free to watch. Kennesaw First Baptist Church. 2958 North Main St., Kennesaw. 770-365-9871.

The 7th Annual Hero Run takes place in Kennesaw this Saturday, and is hoping to host over 2000 runners and walkers to raise money for wounded veteran charities. This Peachtree Road Race qualifier will take you through Downtown Kennesaw and includes a 1K mile walk and 5K race.

Touch a Truck and More Festival. Noon to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug 5. Free with donation of school supplies registration required. Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre. 5239 Floyd Road SW, Mableton.

If your kids love big vehicles (or if you do) don't miss the Touch a Truck and More Festival happening at the Mable House this Saturday. Visitors will enjoy seeing a variety of amazing machinery as well as food trucks, a fun zone and arts and crafts. If you have a child with sensitive ears, the honk-free hours are from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m..

4 Wheels Parts Truck and Jeep Fest. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5 and 6. Cobb Galleria Centre. 2 Galleria Parkway, Atlanta. 877-474-4821.

Calling all truck and Jeep lovers out there - the 4 Wheels Parts Truck and Jeep Fest takes over the Galleria this weekend with custom trucks and Jeeps, product demos, giveaways, special pricing for people wanting to buy a vehicle and more.

Georgia Bridal Show. Noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6. $15 per person. Cobb Galleria Centre. 2 Galleria Parkway, Atlanta. 770-736-1979.

For those of you planning a fall or winter wedding, the Georgia Bridal Show will surround you with everything you need to plan the perfect event. It all takes place at the Galleria on Sunday, and includes a fashion show, demonstrations, vendor booths, and experts and professionals showcasing cakes, food, honeymoons, decor, dresses and flowers.


Viva La Margarita 5K. 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5. $30 per racer, free to watch. 4770 North Peachtree Road, Dunwoody.

Take part in a run like no other this Saturday with the Viva La Margarita 5K. This 5K and 10K race will travel through Brook Run Park, and your ticket price includes a Dri-fit t-shirt, race bib and tickets for a margarita (virgin for runners under 21). Margaritas will be served at the end of the race.

Battle for the Boot Soccer Tournament. 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5. $32.50 per person. Mercer University Atlanta Campus. 3001 Mercer University Drive, Atlanta. 678-869-4690.

Soccer fans, make sure to stop by the Battle for the Boot Soccer Tournament at Mercer this Saturday for a full day of competition, music, food, games and more. Each team will compete in three matches and tournament champs will get a prize.

Flick-Nic in Candler Park. Begins at dark. Saturday, Aug. 5. Free. Candler Park. 585 Candler Park Drive NE, Atlanta.

Bring your family to the Flick-Nic in Candler Park event this Saturday where the movie "Sing" will play on the big screen. Don't forget to bring your blankets, lawn chairs and a picnic to this outdoor event.

Back 2 School Jamboree. Noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6. Free. Midway Recreation Center. 3181 Midway Road, Decatur.

It's almost time for school to start, but not before enjoying a little fun at the Back 2 School Jamboree in Decatur. This free event will include a book bag giveaway, live performances, food and lots of fun. Registration required.

Flicks on the Bricks. 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4. Free. Downtown Duluth. 1760 Pineland Road, Duluth. 770-476-3434.

Flicks on the Bricks will play the movie Moana this Friday in Downtown Duluth. Along with the free outdoor feature, guests will enjoy live music, inflatables, food trucks and more.

Help children in need of school supplies by donating to the School Supply Drive at Buford Village this Friday. All donations will benefit the North Gwinnett Co-op and Buford children in need.

The Southeastern Railway Museum holds their annual Trains, Trucks & Tractors event this weekend in Gwinnett.

2017 Trains, Trucks & Tractors. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 4-6 Friday, Saturday and Sunday. $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $7 for children ages 2 through 12, free for children under 2. Southeastern Railway Museum. 3595 Buford Highway, Duluth.

The Southeastern Railway Museum will showcase a variety of trains, trucks and tractors this weekend. Along with a variety of amazing vehicles, guests will also enjoy seeing special exhibits, receive temporary caboose tattoos and experience hayrides and handcar rides.

Mall of Georgia Back to School Fashion Event. 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5. Free. Mall of Georgia. 3333 Buford Drive, Buford. 770-271-9458.

If your child wants to look her best for school, bring her down to the Mall of Georgia Back to School Fashion Event this Saturday from 2 to 4. Along with an on-stage fashion show, visitors will enjoy a live DJ, performances, a photo booth and take part in giveaways.

North Fulton

Flashlight Friday Night Urban Hike and Movie. 8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug 4. Free to hike, $11.50 per person for the movie. Abernathy Greenway Park. 70 Abernathy Road NE, Sandy Springs. 404-851-9111.

Join the Heritage Sandy Springs Outdoors Club for a night hike followed by a movie at the Lefont Theater. The 3-mile hike will take you through Abernathy Greenway Park, so make sure to bring your flashlight.

Celebrate Old Soldiers Day with a foot race and parade through Downtown Alpharetta. The race will start at 7 a.m., followed by the parade at 9:15. Hot dogs and sodas will be serves, courtesy of the American Legion at 201 Wills Road.

CNC will host the Water Day Family Fun Day this Sunday at noon, which will feature water games, sprinklers, a live bubble show with Bo the Bubbleologist, water-themed craftys and canoeing on Kingfisher Pond.
