I like to think I have a pretty good pulse on what’s going on in and around the city. Yes, it’s my job as the events product manager, but it’s also my passion. So when some friends asked me which events are my favorite, which I would avoid and which are “worth it” – the money, the crowds, the time, etc – I decided to share my schedule. Here are all the events that I’m planning to attend in March. Strap on your party hats, because you’re in for four weeks of fun.
March 1 - 7
Best of Atlanta Party: Wednesday, March 4 at Cobb Galleria Center from 6-9 p.m.
The Best of Atlanta Party is just that; it's the best of everything in Atlanta. Attendees can expect delicious food and drinks from their favorite restaurants, live music from Yacht Rock Schooner, local celebrities and a silent auction. One of the great things about this event is that the featured restaurants can't buy their way into this event – they are selected by Atlanta Magazine. The other great thing about this event is that proceeds from the silent auction go to The Giving Kitchen. General admission is $65 and VIP tickets are $90 in advance ($100 at the door), but AJC's Nedra Rhone is giving away tickets to this event, so enter by Feb. 25 for your chance to win! Superhero Day: Saturday, March 7
Everybody loves superheroes. More importantly, everyone loves dressing up like a superhero.
For kids: If you're a parent, take your superhero-clad tot the Georgia Aquarium on Saturday, Mar. 7. Kids under 12 who are dressed as a superhero will receive FREE admission with each paying adult, and enjoy special superhero activities from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Details at events.accessatlanta.com/superheroday
For adults: Superheroes are cool, but villains are more fun. Paint your face like the Joker and come out to East Atlanta Village for the fifth annual Superhero & Supervillain Pub Crawl and fundraiser. This year the event is sponsored by Budweiser and wristband sales benefit PAWS Atlanta. According to shsvcrawl.com, participating bars include Graveyard Tavern, Argosy, Glenwood, Midway and Elder Tree. The complete list isn't yet finalized, so check back for updates. March 8 - 14
Inman Park Restaurant Week: March 9- 15
Fact: Restaurant Week rules. This Inman Park Restaurant Week includes 13 participating restaurants with menus at $15, $25 and $35 per person. I'm especially excited to try The Luminary at Krog Street Market, which received a great review earlier this year. Other participating restaurants include Parish, Kevin Rathbun Steak, Wisteria, Il Localino and more. Details at inmanparkrestaurantweek.com
St. Patrick's Parade: Saturday, March 14
This year is the 133rd Atlanta St. Patrick's Parade, which makes it Atlanta's longest running event. Although the parade features representatives from the various Irish groups in Atlanta's Irish community, the parade is not just an "Irish thing." It includes clowns, floats, bands, Bagpipe & Drum Corps, dancers, drill teams and more. If you like a good parade, this event is a must-see. And if you're a runner, there's a 5K in the morning. March 15 - 21
Beer Carnival: Saturday, March 21
Play games and drink beer. That's pretty much what the beer carnival is, and it's awesome. Enjoy over 100 different kinds of beer, carnival food and midway games. General admission is $30-35 (depending on when you buy) and VIP is $50-60. Admission includes sample glass, unlimited beer tasting and carnival games. Science Festival: March 21 – 28
A celebration of science and technology, the Atlanta Science Festival has something for people of all ages. The festival has events all over the city, covering topics from robots to astronomy. Highlights include a screening of Her,robotics workshops and the Chattahoochee River Bird Walk & Talk. The festival concludes with a free, family-friendly Exploration Expo at Centennial Olympic Park which includes demos and interactive exhibits. Details at atlantasciencefestival.org
March 22 - 28
Laughing Skull Comedy Festival: March 25 – March 29
5 venues, 72 comedians and a lot of laughs. This is the 6th annual festival and if you like stand-up comedy, this is the event for you. It's a great opportunity to see up and coming comedians compete to be the "Winner of the Laughing Skull Comedy Festival 2015." Baconfest: Saturday, March 28 at The Masquerade Music Park at 1 PM
This 21+ event helps Dad's Garage bring home the bacon by giving you – you guessed it – bacon. The outdoor festival has all the fixings for a perfect Saturday - bacon, beer and bands. They will have over 2,250 pounds of bacon this year, so I recommend buying the Bottomless Bacon ticket option. This ticket is $45 for unlimited game playing and unlimited beer and bacon, so you can fill up on your fill of pork. Event details at events.accessatlanta.com/baconfest
