Ready to take leaf peeping to all new heights in North Georgia?

Now, you can get a squirrel's-eye-view of the mountain foliage from the new Aerial Adventure Park near the tumbling waterfall at Amicalola Falls State Park and Lodge.

The Amicalola Falls Aerial Adventure Park opened in  2016, so if you still haven't checked it out,  here's what to know before you go:

Take it fast

Zip lining is meant to be zippy. The park has 11 lines – ranging in length from 75 feet to 1,000 feet – if you want to soar through the treetops for your fall colors. The QuickTrekker closed belay system means you don't disconnect their harness between the wire cables, for added safety on your trip. Remember your closed-toe shoes, lip balm and sunglasses for your comfort on the course.

Take it slow

If even the beginner zip lines promise a little too much adrenaline, the aerial park also has three cable and wood suspension bridges that link them and let you take a breath to savor the views. The sky trails are between 20 and 100 feet in the air – perfect for that shot on Instagram.

Plan ahead

Amicalola Falls is just two hours from Atlanta, so you can expect competition from other outdoor adventurers. Reserve your spot in the air by calling 800-573-9656 or visiting amicalolafallslodge.com/adventures/zip-lines/. The park is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily prices vary.

Groups of 10 people or more qualify for the park's team building course, which includes obstacles to be overcome. Seven days' advance notice is required for groups and can be scheduled by calling the activities manager at 706-265-1969.

Stay a while

The Amicalola Falls Lodge offers rooms, cabins and Wi-Fi to upload all of your best photos. Coral Hospitality is offering a fall foliage package, called Elevate Your View, which starts at a nightly rate of $99 per person and includes lodge accommodations and two-hour zipline canopy tour. The Elevate Your View package is also available at nearby Unicoi State Park and Lodge, 800-573-9659. Mention or enter promotion code COZY for the discount at both parks and lodges.

Climb into the trees

Autumn is apple picking season, too. Once you've had your fill of the treetops, the orchards of Ellijay are just a 15-minute drive up Georgia Highway 52. Several stops in Apple Orchard Alley offer fresh pastries, hayrides, milking cows, cider and, if you're missing the trees, a chance to pick your own fruit. Visit Explore Georgia to see a list of the orchards that dot the valley and special events planned throughout the fall.
