Do you want to know more about Georgia’s waterways?

The Georgia River Network Hidden Gems Paddle will help Georgians learn more about the waterways and the environment. Water trails are the focus of the "Hidden Gems" series.

The one-day river trips include lunch and presentations along the route, ranging from natural history and water quality, cultural history and environmental cleanups.

On Aug. 22, the trip will be on the South River in metro Atlanta, which originates underground in Fulton County, and flows through DeKalb, Rockdale, Henry and Newton counties. Partners include the South River Watershed Alliance, Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area and Rockdale County.

There will also be a live native fish demonstration by North American Native Fish Association. After the paddle, participants will enjoy a post-paddle social and dinner with a special dragonfly presentation at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers.

On Nov. 14, the route will be Ochlockonee River in South Georgia.

Costs range from $25 to $95.
