SMYRNA
Christmas coat drive
As we prepare for the temperatures dropping, the city of Smyrna is working to warm things up. The Cobb County town is holding a coat drive to collect new or gently used outerwear for its needy citizens to help them stay warm this winter. Organizers also are making it a little fun for those who support the effort: By bringing one coat, attendees will get access to the city’s Christmas festival, which includes a jingle bell hay ride, cookie decorating stations, holiday games, crafts and perhaps the man with the biggest coat of them all, Santa.
5-8 p.m. Dec. 18. Admission is a new or gently used winter coat. Taylor-Brawner Park, 3180 Atlanta Road, Smyrna. 678-631-5545, smyrnacity.com.
STONE MOUNTAIN
Stories With Santa
The elves aren’t only at the North Pole. Some of them have been hard at work in Stone Mountain, where they’ve been busy prepping for Santa’s arrival — a week before Christmas! Santa is headed to the village beside the giant granite outcropping to share stories with children and hear their holiday wishes. The event will begin with a lunch with the elves, followed by Santa’s arrival. The Head Elf will be on hand for photos before setting off for the North Pole to prepare for the big week to come. Parents can browse the silent auction while the kids concentrate on being on their best nice, not naughty, behavior.
11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Dec. 19. $6 for children 12 and younger, $12 for adults. ART Station, 5384 Manor Drive, Stone Mountain. 770-469-1105, artstation.org.
ROSWELL
M-pact concert
Step aside, Bing Crosby. Move over, Mariah. A few new voices are putting a contemporary spin on classic Christmas carols. The a cappella group M-pact is performing in Roswell this holiday season. As seen on the PBS “Christmas in L.A.” special, the group will sing selections from their award-winning holiday album, “The Carol Commission.” Now in its 20th year, the sextet has made a career of using only its members’ voices to perform songs. Discount tickets are available for students, seniors and military.
8 p.m. Dec. 19. $35. Roswell Cultural Arts Center, 950 Forrest St., Roswell. 770-594-6232, roswellgov.com.
