KENNESAW

Program Palooza

Kennesaw Parks and Recreation Department is rolling out the red carpet — or rather, the red noses — with a carnival-themed party to showcase its new season of recreational activities. Play carnival games, win prizes, jump on an inflatable or laugh along with one of the street performers, and, while you’re having fun, take the opportunity to see what recreation classes are available. Class instructors will be on hand, but you also can participate in demonstrations and learn all about the courses, including sports, dance, arts and crafts, enrichment and fitness. And, if you register on-site during the event, you’ll get a discount off the total price.

10 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 13. Free admission. Ben Robertson Community Center, 2753 Watts Drive, Kennesaw. 770-422-9714, kennesaw-ga.gov.

NEWNAN

Stargazing

Get away from bright lights and a bustling life and spend some time looking up at the stars at Chattahoochee Bend State Park. Start at the Visitors Center, where attendees will spend an hour viewing the heavens, identifying constellations and learning about the folklore surrounding each of them. Bring a blanket to make the evening more comfortable, but don’t forget a pair of binoculars and a star chart. If you bring a flashlight, make sure it has a red lens, cover or bulb.

9-10 p.m. Aug. 13. $3 admission; $5 parking fee. Chattahoochee Bend State Park, 425 Bobwhite Way, Newnan. 770-254-7271, gastateparks.org/info/chattahoocheebend.

CHATTAHOOCHEE HILLS

Snake Day

Slither into some fun this weekend by checking out snakes at Cochran Mill Nature Center. The Georgia Reptile Society and the Atlanta Reptile Jungle are teaming up to present Snake Day 2016, where attendees can get up close and personal with a few live serpents. Listen to talks on such topics as choosing your first reptile pet, or have fun in the craft section. Refreshments and snakes will be available for purchase — though be careful not to confuse the latter for the former.

10 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 13. $6 for guests; $5 for members. Cochran Mill Nature Center, 6300 Cochran Mill Road, Chattahoochee Hills. 770-306-0914, cochranmillnaturecenter.org.
