SUWANEE

Sweetheart Sprint

Help your honey off the couch and hustle over to Suwanee for a runaway romance. The Peachtree-qualifying Sweetheart Sprint 5K is accepting race day registrations, so it’s not too late to keep those New Year’s resolutions and have a bit of fun, too. The goodies you’ll get afterward make the run worth it: Once they cross the finish line, all runners will receive a long-sleeved, dry-fit race shirt, hot chocolate and a chocolate treat. If you’re feeling particularly bold, or just want to put some love in the air, come in your best Valentine’s Day costume for a chance to win an additional prize. Walkers with strollers and pets are welcome to follow the runners.

9 a.m. Feb. 13. $35 per person; $55 per couple. Suwanee Town Center Park, 330 Town Center Ave., Suwanee. 678-995-6860, rungeorgia.com/sweetheartsprint.html.

ROSWELL

“True to Their Native Land” premiere

History isn’t always a moldy thing of the past; there are still a few local legends and ordinary citizens here to share it with us. “True to Their Native Land” takes Georgians and Alabamians who served in World War II and gives them a chance to discuss what it was like being African-American at that time. The 90-minute documentary will premiere as part of the Roswell’s Roots Festival, which celebrates Black History Month by showcasing its unique African-American history and culture. Producer Weldon Bishop IV also will be on hand to speak about the film.

3 p.m. Feb. 13. Free. Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 725 Pleasant Hill St., Roswell. 770-641-3950, roswellgov.com.
