Animal Rescue Fair
Help a furry friend find a home or just come to support a good cause this weekend at the annual Animal Rescue Fair. More than 50 pet rescues and humane societies will converge for one mega pet adoption event. And it’s not just about dogs and cats — horses, goats, rabbits and others need to be adopted, too. Your own best animal friend is welcome (on a leash) and may just be a winner in the contest for cutest pet. A raffle and vendor tables also will be part of the event, which takes place rain or shine.

DULUTH
Locomotive celebration
Next stop: Duluth, where you can get on board with Atlanta’s long love affair with trains. Head to the Southeastern Railway Museum as it holds a locomotive celebration and introduces the newest addition to its train collection. Hear the sounds of the tracks during a demonstration of vintage train whistles. Ride in a handcar, learn a bit of history about each locomotive, and let the kids go crazy in the craft corner, where they can create their own souvenirs. Admission is free for railway-railroad workers and their families.

ATLANTA
Southern Fried Gameroom Expo
Get your fill of games at the Southern Fried Gameroom Expo this weekend. Begin at the free game-play arena featuring pinball, arcade and console games. But don’t stop there: Speakers will be on-site to offer insights about their gaming expertise. Several films focused on games and gaming will be shown, and Friday night will include musical performances and live wrestling. If you want to show off your skills, consider entering one of the many tournaments or enter the costume contest.
