ROSWELL
Civil War Living History Encampment
Celebrate the weekend in historic style with a bit of live music and dancing — from the 1800s. Roswell marks the 150th anniversary of the Union’s occupation of the city with Civil War-era music and dance demonstrations. The city is also re-creating the arrest of nearly 400 mill workers who were charged with treason and sent north. A Union soldier encampment on the lawn of Barrington Hall will give visitors a look at the hard life of the ordinary enlisted man.
10 a.m.-4 p.m. July 12-13. Free. Barrington Hall, 535 Barrington Drive, Roswell. 678-639-7500, www.roswellgov.com.
STONE MOUNTAIN
‘The Marvelous Wonderettes: Caps and Gowns’
Another time trip is on tap, this one to the more recent (and more pleasant) 1950s. Stone Mountain's ART Station re-creates the rock 'n' roll era in "The Marvelous Wonderettes: Caps and Gowns," an off-Broadway musical that follows the ups and downs of a four-girl singing group from the Class of '58. The first act takes the audience to the school prom, while the second jumps forward to their 10-year reunion. All the action is set to the time period's classic golden oldies, re-created in complicated harmonies by the cast. 8 p.m. July 10-12; 3 p.m. July 13. $21-$25. ART Station, 5384 Manor Drive, Stone Mountain. 770-469-1105, www.artstation.org.
