End of Summer Blow-Out BBQ
This Gwinnett County city celebrates the end of summer for school children in true Southern fashion, which means a barbecue at the recreation center at George Pierce Park, where the patio will be the setting for food, games and activities for the entire family. The cost is $5 per person for this last hurrah before it’s back to the books Aug. 10 for Gwinnett students. Registration is required and can be done online or by phone.

Program Palooza
Some of your favorite superheroes are coming to Kennesaw to help introduce fun activities for the fall. They’ll be on hand for a Parks and Recreation Department open house to showcase the variety of programs, workshops and classes available. Activities include sports, dance and fitness programs, adult enrichment classes, and arts and craft events for a range of ages. Demonstrations will include the opportunity to meet class instructors, and discounts will be offered to those who register for events during the open house.

Cosplay Night: Geek Pool Party
Get your geek bathing costume on: It’s time for a pool party — in name only. The pool-less Battle & Brew emporium in Sandy Springs is holding a pool-themed party for all levels of cosplayers (those who live to dress as their favorite movie, book or video game character), and it’s open to more than just Aquaman. Anyone who comes in character and sports swimwear or beach clothes will fit right in. A contest will honor the best and most creative outfits. Please note that shoes are required for entry, and any water guns brought inside must be empty.
