Street Survival Course
“Arrive Alive:” That’s the goal of Street Survival, a nation-wide program designed to help teenage drivers be safer behind the wheel. Coming to Lawrenceville for a one-day program on Oct. 14, Street Survival gives new and less-experienced drivers hands-on training for everyday hazards and challenges, all from behind the wheel of participants’ own cars. The course commences with a classroom session and then moves on to honing key, practical skills such as emergency braking, skid control and avoiding accidents entirely. All driving happens in a controlled environment, so teens will feel safe as they learn.

Walk with a Doc
Need to get out and get healthy? The city of Dunwoody and Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital are here to help. Each month, the two team up to offer the “Walk with a Doc” program. To join, just show up at Brook Run Park wearing comfortable clothes and shoes, and be ready to walk for an hour. A healthcare professional from the hospital will be on hand to put some pep in your step. offer walking advice and provide answers to any health questions you might have. Walkers meet up on the front field of the park, opposite the playground.

Fall-O-Ween Fest
What’s better than a fun fall festival? One with a few ghosts and ghouls making the rounds? And maybe a few ninjas, princesses and superheroes, too? The city of Kennesaw transforms the Swift-Cantrell Park into “Spook Central” for the annual Fall-O-Ween event. All ages are invited to come dressed in their best costumes and compete for awards. Carnival games, children’s activities and a bit of early trick-or-treating are also part of the evening. Show off your moves at the Monster Mash that lasts until 7:30 p.m., but stick around for a showing of Disney’s live action “Beauty and the Beast.” Bring a blanket or low-backed chair for the screening.
