ACWORTH
Star Gazing at Red Top Mountain
If city lights are blocking your view of the sky, head to Red Top Mountain on March 24 for a better view. That’s the night the park plans a stargazing evening, so bring your sky-spying equipment or use the telescope and binoculars on site to stare up at the heavens. When not craning your neck, take a sip of the hot chocolate that will be provided. Amateur astronomers are invited to meet at the Visitor Center at 8:15 p.m., but if you arrive 45 minutes earlier, you can also enjoy the chestnuts roasting over an open fire (just bring your own marshmallows). And if heavy cloud cover or rain cancels the event, another is scheduled for March 31.
8:30-10 p.m. March 24. Free with $5 parking fee. Red Top Mountain State Park, 50 Lodge Road, Acworth. 770-975-0055, gastateparks.org/RedTopMountain.
BROOKHAVEN
Cherry Blossom Festival
Trying to decide what to do this weekend, but can’t quite make a decision? Maybe run a 5K, take in a show, check out classic cars or just get out and enjoy some of the Atlanta area’s famous greenery? Why not do it all in one place? This weekend is the Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival, and organizers have packed the weekend with just those kinds of events. From local school performances to big names such as Ed Roland and the Sweet Tea Project, there will be plenty of live music and performances. Saturday features a classic car show, while Sunday is set for the pet parade. Throughout the weekend, kids can enjoy a “village” full of fun activities. And as the name suggests, it all takes place around the city’s numerous cherry blossom trees.
6 a.m.-9 p.m. March 25; 10 a.m.-9 p.m. March 26. Free; registration for the 5K is $35. Blackburn Park, 3493 Ashford Dunwoody Road, Brookhaven. 404-637-0534, brookcherryfest.org.
