Here's where to get a free ice cream cone on the first day of summer

Now that summer is here in full blast, we bet you have a few secret go-to frozen treats to help beat the heat. Last week's Best of Atlanta poll was inspired by all things cool and tasty.

Dairy Queen  wants to kick summer off and your weekend with free ice cream.

On Friday, Dairy Queen invites Atlanta and U.S. customers to take advantage of a deal the fast food chain is only offering via its mobile app. DQ is offering a free small cone or dipped cone with any purchase at participating locations, according to a statement from Dairy Queen.

Some of metro Atlanta's  Dairy Queen locations include ones in Alpharetta, Marietta, Smyrna,  College Park, Decatur and Duluth.

March 20 is Dairy Queen's fourth annual Free Cone Day.
