Mornings are hard, but there’s something about a savory Southern breakfast that makes waking up before noon almost worth it.
If you want to wake up to one of the best breakfast sandwiches in the U.S., you don’t have to go too far.
Editors at Food & Wine have scoured the country for the best breakfast sandwich − from bountiful biscuit combos to wondrous waffle mashups. Atlanta just so happened to get a nod on its short list of only 18 of the best breakfast sandwiches.
Empire State South has mastered the breakfast sandwich and made it to No. 2 on the food and lifestyle site’s list for its Southern fried chicken, pimento cheeses and marmalade on a huge biscuit.
Here’s what SL’s editors had to say about Empire State South’s fried chicken biscuit.
"The breakfast menu at Hugh Acheson's modern soul food restaurant is concise with basic eggs, grits and some healthier options, but the mix-and-match breakfast sandwich lends itself to a multitude of variations. One favorite features a fresh-baked biscuit topped with fried chicken, pimento cheese and optional scrambled eggs for an extra $1."
You can take all that yummy in for $9.
