Atlanta is a city that is practically humming with activity. It seems that every day something else opens. Whether it’s your new favorite restaurant or a spot to pick up those boots you’ve been aching for, it’s probably coming to a neighborhood near you. The heat of August is bringing plenty of new spots, and below are some of the ones we're most excited for.
Doggy Dogg 310 East Howard Avenue, Decatur
The long time hot dog cart is finally getting a brick and mortar. On August 4, Doggy Dogg will open in Decatur across from Kimball House. Expect flavors like the El Perro with chorizo, jalapenos, onions & cilantro pesto or load up the Spotted Trotter dogs with your own choice of toppings. Wash it down with some Mexican Coke or some brew.
Ray's Rio Bravo 6450 Powers Ferry Road N.W., Atlanta
It has returned! The popular 90’s era Mexican spot is back serving up queso fundido and slinging flour tortillas from the famous tortilla press "The Machio." The location has moved, however. Rio Bravo left Buckhead and has taken up residence in the former space of Tasty China in Sandy Springs. They open to the public on August 4.
Tipple + Rose Tea Parlor 806 N. Highland Avenue, Atlanta
Fans of the now shuttered (soon to be relocated) East Atlanta Village bodaga, Urban Cannibals, will be happy to know that the owners are expanding their offerings. This go round, Calavino and Doria are opening a tea room in Virginia-Highland. They are offering over 100 kinds of brewed teas, bulk teas and spices, caffeinated coffee alternatives, morning pastries, desserts, light fare, High Tea, tastings and monthly tea pourings. Soft opening will span the first two weeks of August. High Tea will begin August 18.
The Frye Company at Ponce City 75 Ponce de Leon Ave NE Atlanta
The legendary boot store is coming to Atlanta. Opening in the long awaited Ponce City Market on Friday, August 7, this will be the first location in the area. The 4,000 square foot store will be located on the main level, within the retail arcade. Expect installations that highlight the famous boots, as well as leather handbags and a giant “chandelier," consisting of 7,000 leather straps holding Frye’s signature harness rings.
My Parent's Basement 22 N Avondale Rd., Avondale Estates
On August 14, beer and comic book geeks unite in Avondale Estates. Opening in the former James Joyce space, My Parent's Basement brings together the owner's passion for both craft beer and all things comic book. They also offer a free video game lounge. Visitors can munch on items like a foot long pimento cheese toast and grilled cheese with kimchi. Local craft beer will be the name of the game, and you can sip on beer from locals like Wild Heaven and Creature Comforts.
Top Golf Midtown 1600 Ellsworth Industrial Blvd. NW
Following the wildly successful location in Alpharetta, West Midtown will finally getting its own Top Golf experience. Doors open on August 14. If you’ve never played, Top Golf is like a combination of a driving range and a video game. Players compete to drive a golf ball to a target. Golfers can also enjoy a sleek bar and food service, along with big screens to keep up with any game you would want to watch.
Dolce Italian 3035 Peachtree Rd. NE
Buckhead Atlanta continues to expand its restaurant offerings with Dolce Italian. As you can probably guess from the name, they will be serving up Italian treats, from cocktails to fire roasted pizzas and fresh pastas. Look for barrel aged specialty drinks like negronis and an aperol spritz. Dolce is expected to open in late August. Expect a lot of buzz around Dolce, their Miami outpost won Bravo's Bravo's Best New Restaurant competition.
