Celebrate the start of the new month by getting out to do more than work this week.
Whether you’re looking to have some family fun at a museum or hoping to kick off Atlanta Black Pride, we’ve got a few suggestions.
Here are five ways to make sure you play hard after working hard this week:
See Goblin puppets
Celebrate the 30th anniversary of cult favorite "Labyrinth" at the Center for Puppetry Arts. The organization has opened an exhibit paying tribute to the Jim Henson-directed film that starred David Bowie. See Goblin puppets and more through Sept.3, 2017 for $10.50. Guided tours are $14.50.
You never need an excuse to go to the museum, but we have a pretty good one just in case!
Visit the Woodruff Arts Center and play their newest installation. A public piano named “Carly” was recently installed by Play Me Again Pianos, a Georgia nonprofit organization that permanently maintains pianos that are accessible to the public.
Visit the Museum of Design Atlanta with your kids and sign them up to become members of the Design Club. The program gives kids who are 17 years old or younger, and an accompanying adult free, unlimited membership to the museum.
The Museum of Design Atlanta has housed exhibits on design, graphics and fashion for more than 25 years.
Visit museumofdesign.org to learn more about Design Club and learn about the museum's current and future exhibits.
Kick off Atlanta Black Pride
Atlanta Black Pride kicks off this week with celebrity-hosted parties, community events and town halls at the Center for Civil and Human Rights Museum.
In the Life Atlanta, Traxx Girls and Queendom are among the organizations that will be hosting Pride events throughout the week.
You don't have to wait until the weekend to enjoy the festivities. Kick off the celebration with Pride Skate Party at Metro Lanes or Dapper: The Andro Fashion Show at M Bar on Wednesday, Aug. 31.
Kick off the first day of September with some rock and roll. AC/DC's "Rock or Bust" tour was originally scheduled for March but will now take place on Sept. 1. Axl Rose joined the band in April, but his Atlanta fans might have seen his show with Guns N' Roses earlier this year.
8 p.m. Sept. 1. $75-$125. Philps Arena, 1 Philips Drive, Atlanta. Livenation.com.
