Harper, a 3-year-old Parson Russell Terrier who lives in Canton, won best of breed in the prestigious Westminster Kennel Dog Show in New York City.

“She showed beautifully,” said Janie Smith, Harper’s co-owner, before boarding a plane to return home. “This is a dream come true.”

The AJC featured Harper and other local dogs Saturday in a preview of the dog show. Other local dogs featured in the article, including Spirit, a rescue border collie, and Cray, a 21-month-old Border Terrier, didn't win as hoped. But two of Cray's half-siblings, Oliver and Sage, won select awards in their breed category — which are considered second-place prizes for male and female border terriers.

The top prize — best in show — went to Miss P, a 4-year-old beagle from British Columbia.
