The kids don’t have to go trick or treating to summon a fun-filled Halloween. Television has conjured up their spookiest adventures to usher in that creepiest time of the year. Parents can suffer their own chills and far fewer calories in front of the tube.
Starting off with the Queen of the Underworld, Catherine Bell, will once again cast her magic spell as the Good Witch in “The Good Witch’s Wonder,” premiering on the Hallmark Channel Saturday. This marks the seventh installment of the highly rated series of movies starring the bewitching Bell. This time she hires somebody to help in her store only to find they are harboring a dark and stormy past. The show airs at 9 p.m.
The Cartoon Network is brewing a week of Halloween specials from next Monday through Oct. 30. “Lego DC Comics: Batman Be-Leaguered” will assemble all the superheroes into one big thriller when Superman disappears and Batman reluctantly has to enlist the help of the Flash to find him. When the Flash disappears, the xenophobic Batman is forced to team up with Wonder Woman, Cyborg and Aquaman to fight the villains who are trying to destroy them. These mighty adventures get underway next Monday at 6 p.m.
Destination America’s new show “Ghost Stalkers,” will attempt to answer that infernal question “where do we go when we die?” as the two hosts dog the portals of the supernatural. Both claim to have had near-death experiences which has fired their passion for the unknown. “Ghost Stalkers” airs on Sunday at 10 p.m.
Investigation Discovery’s new series, “Your Worst Nightmare,” premiering Wednesday at 10 p.m., is twice as scary because it’s true. The show follows a true-crime through its bone-chilling progression. Interspersed in the action are comments from crime experts, local lawmen, psychologists and testimonials from friends and families of the real-life victims.
Over at PBS they’re planning a week of Halloween-related treats including “Curious George,” who’s celebrating his ninth season. George lands in a “Halloween Boo-Fest” next Monday followed by a week of new episodes. Animal lovers, “The Wild Kratts,” will visit the secrets of a spider’s web on Oct. 30 and spy a “Bat in the Brownies” on Oct. 31.
Creative families will compete for a $50,000 prize to see who can fashion the most horrific, elaborate and bone-chilling Halloween display for ABC’s “The Great Halloween Fright Fight” on Oct. 28 at 8 p.m. Families were chosen after a nationwide search of budding decorators and their previous haunting displays.
“Dancing With the Stars” is coupling its fancy footwork with elaborate Halloween costumes to boost the ratings of the last eight couples competing for the title next Monday at 8 p.m. on ABC.
On REELZ Ed Asner narrates a documentary on the true story behind the haunted Amityville house, which became an entertainment franchise. The two-hour doc examines the horrendous mass murder that took place in the house in 1974 and what happened a year later when the Lutz family moved in. “The Amityville Horror Murders” premieres on Sunday at 9 p.m.
Melissa Joan Hart will direct herself and the rest of the cast of “Melissa & Joey” on ABC Family in a Halloween-themed episode in which she is convinced that she was once a teen-age witch. At first she and Joey don’t believe it, but when supernatural things begin to occur they have to think again. “Witch Came First” airs on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
The Scots have their Loch Ness Monster, and it turns out so do the Russians. For years the Russians have recited tales of lake-dwelling monsters, elusive mountain men and mysteries surrounding the Mountain of the Dead. Those legends will be examined in “Monsters Behind the Iron Curtain” airing on the Animal Planet Sunday from 9 to 11 p.m. The show kicks off a week of such gnarly topics dubbed “Beastly Nights” airing through Oct. 30.
MTV will uncork its original horror movie, “The Dorm” on Saturday night at 8 p.m. It’s the tale of a nerdy teenager who’s given a “make-over” by her roommates that turns her into a seductive beauty. But there’s a high price for that, she soon finds out.
AMC is in the mood for mass marathons this Halloween. “The Omen” marathon airs on Friday beginning at 4 p.m. with “The Omen,” “Damien: Omen II,” and “Omen III: The Final Conflict.” Saturday, starting at 2 p.m., it hosts a “Chucky-thon” and on Sunday a “Tremors” 26.22-mile run begins at 7:45 a.m. Next Monday through Oct. 31 every night at 7 p.m. AMC will define the meaning of Halloween with its classic “Halloween” movie marathon.
The threat unit at CBS’ “Stalker” spends Halloween night searching a chaotic costume party for a suspect who has been issuing eerie threats to a victim who lives in an alleged haunted house. The show airs Oct. 29 at 10 p.m.
