The movie that gave Debbie Reynolds her big break is finally coming to a theater near you.

Make that coming back to a theater … "Singin' in the Rain" will play at a handful of metro Atlanta theaters for two days next week — 65 years after it first appeared on the big screen.

Maybe the funniest movie ever made about making movies, the “Singin’” showcase honors Reynolds, who died on Dec. 28, and also helps kick off Atlanta-based TCM’s yearlong “Big Screen Classics” series presented in conjunction with Fathom Events.

Reynolds was only 19 when she was cast alongside megastars Gene Kelly and Donald O’Connor in the movie that was nominated for two Academy Awards, including best music. She was already a brilliant singer, but had no dancing background — yet she more than held her own onscreen with veteran hoofers Kelly and O’Connor in the spectacular dancing-on-couches number “Good Morning.”

No matter how hard she didn’t make it look onscreen. Years later, Reynolds told an interviewer that “Singin’ in the Rain and childbirth were the two hardest things I ever had to do in my life.”

“Singin’ in the Rain” will be shown at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 15 and again at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18 at the following metro theaters: Avalon 12, Buy Alpharetta; Perimeter Point 10, Atlanta; Hollywood 24, Chamblee; Barrett Commons 14,Kennesaw; Sugarloaf Mills 18,Lawrenceville; McDonough Stadium 16, Mcdonough;Southlake Pavilion 24,Morrow and Georgian Stadium 14,Newnan.
