Curator of Photography, High Museum of Art

After nine years as associate curator of photographs for the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, Abbott, 36, arrived in Atlanta in 2011 to spearhead the High’s photography concerns, from education and acquisitions to securing major shows. In less than four years, he has acquired more than 1,000 photographic works and stewarded more than 10 major photography installations

Accomplishments: The "Wynn Bullock: Revelations" exhibition (continuing through Jan. 18), the first major retrospective of the artist's work in almost 40 years. Abbott calls Bullock "one of the great unsung heroes of mid-20th century photography." Also noteworthy, helping launch a permanent gallery space in the High dedicated to photography.

Upcoming: "Gordon Parks: Segregation Story" opens Nov. 15 and spotlights social justice-themed works by the "trailblazing" African-American artist and filmmaker.
