A little rock 'n' roll will accompany the acoustic-based performers at this year's "Concerts in the Garden" series at Atlanta Botanical Garden, including an appearance from Georgia favorites the B-52s on June 28 and a return for recurrent darling Mary Chapin Carpenter, who will play Aug. 9 with pal Shawn Colvin.
The other performers coming to the Great Lawn are:
June 23: Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo —Though Benatar hasn't released a studio album since 2003, she and husband Giraldo are a frequent presence on the summer concert scene. If you haven't yet read her 2010 autobiography, "Between a Heart and a Rock Place," it's worth checking out.
July 12: The Carolina Chocolate Drops with Keller Williams — The Chocolate Drops played the Variety Playhouse in November, but it's never too soon a return for their old-time sounds of fiddle and banjo.
July 19: Boz Scaggs — Though he's recently been on the road with Donald Fagen and Michael McDonald as part of the Dukes of September, Scaggs is going the solo route to promote his new album, "Memphis."
July 26: An Evening With Lyle Lovett and His Acoustic Group — The Texas mainstay unveiled his 11th studio album last year, "Release Me," which hit the top 10 of the Billboard Top Country Albums chart.
Aug. 10: Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers with Railroad Earth — He's played with Ricky Skaggs, Christian McBride, the Range and the Grateful Dead, but Hornsby and his Noisemakers have released five albums together as well, most recently 2011's live "Bride of the Noisemakers."
Aug. 18: Roger Hodgson: The Legendary Voice of Supertramp — He's been touring solo since 1997 — even joining Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band in 2001 — and now Hodgson says he might record a new album at some point, which would be his first since 2000.
All "Concerts in the Garden" start at 8 p.m., and seating is general admission. The address is 1345 Piedmont Ave. N.E., Atlanta. Tickets for this 11th annual season will be available starting April 19 for Botanical Garden members and April 26 for the general public via Ticket Alternative and at Garden Admissions.
