The goal for Parklife music festival in its second year: go big.
Or, at least bigger, as the event moves from its initial home at Atlantic Station to the Promenade at Piedmont Park.
“Moving to a legitimate green space like Piedmont is huge and associating it with an event called Parklife makes the most sense,” said Andrew Hingley, the talent buyer at Eddie’s Attic who created the event last year with regional concert promoter Bowe O’Brien.
The 2015 version of Parklife will take place at the park Oct. 18 (gates open at 2 p.m.) with an Americana-heavy lineup topped by Jason Isbell that also features Strand of Oaks and Natalie Prass. Additional acts will be announced soon.
Tickets to the all-ages Parklife are on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at www.ticketmaster.com. An Atlanta Journal-Constitution presale (password AJC) begins at 10 a.m. Wednesday. General admission tickets are $45. A VIP upgrade, which includes a special viewing area, private restrooms and additional bar options, is $125.
At last year's all-day event, which was headlined by buzzy British upstart Jake Bugg and attracted a crowd of about 1,600, O'Brien commented that, for Parklife's initial outing, it was "a great starting point."
Hence the move to Piedmont Park in an area that can accommodate about 4,500 and offers the convenience of MARTA and a parking garage with several hundred spaces.
Hingley is enthusiastic that “the stars aligned” to attract Isbell, who hasn’t played a headlining date in Atlanta since 2013 (he was part of the massive lineup of May’s Shaky Boots festival in Kennesaw).
The former Drive-By Truckers member releases his fifth solo album, “Something More Than Free,” on July 17.
