SATURDAY
Billy Gibbons and the BFGs
Last year, the ZZ Top axe man was slated to kick off his tour in Atlanta. A few scheduling changes bumped him to 2016, but, no worries — he and his BFGs will still perform plenty from his new solo album, “Perfectamundo.” And you might hear a little “La Grange,” too.
With Tyler Bryant & the Shakedown. 8 p.m. Jan. 23. $40. Variety Playhouse, 1099 Euclid Ave. N.E., Atlanta. 404-524-7354, ticketmaster.com.
Pat McGee
The pop-rock troubadour is still touring behind his self-titled double album released last year, which features the musical talents of Russ Kunkel, Leland Sklar, Waddy Wachtel, Danny Kortchmar, John Popper and Pat Monahan of Train. While McGee, whose latest work was inspired by the stylings of James Taylor and Jackson Browne, plays many of those new songs in concert, he doesn’t neglect his early 2000s success with Richmond’s Pat McGee Band and the sweet melodies that propelled the group in songs such as “Rebecca” and “Haven’t Seen for Awhile.”
7 p.m. Jan. 23, 8 p.m. Jan. 24. $20-$26. Eddie's Attic, 515-B N. McDonough St., Decatur. 1-877-435-9849, ticketfly.com.
Dark Horses of East Nashville
Referring to themselves as a collection of friends from the “song ghetto,” Amelia White, Sergio Webb and Julie Christensen share their talents together. Webb tours and records with both White and Christensen, while White’s upcoming “Home Sweet Hotel” (out Feb. 5) features Christensen’s soulful vocals. Adding to the musical incestuousness, Webb’s latest release, “Domingo,” includes songs co-written with White and sung with Christensen.
8 p.m. Jan. 23. $17. Red Clay Music Foundry, 3116 Main St., Duluth. 404-478-2749, eddieowenpresents.com.
MONDAY
Tool
The metal band isn’t known for releasing albums — in a 25-year career, fans have received exactly four studio efforts. There is talk of a new release, but, with nothing confirmed, breath-holding is not advised. This is Tool’s first Atlanta-area appearance since 2012.
With Primus and 3Teeth. 7:30 p.m. Jan. 25. $59.50-$79.50. Infinite Energy Center (formerly Gwinnett Arena), 6400 Sugarloaf Parkway, Duluth. 1-888-929-7849, infiniteenergycenter.com.
WEDNESDAY
Robert Earl Keen
The longtime Texas folkie has been unfurling his visceral Americana music for more than 30 years. Artists ranging from George Strait to the Dixie Chicks have covered his songs and, in 2012, the Texas Heritage Songwriters Hall of Fame inducted him along with Lyle Lovett and the late Townes Van Zandt. He’s never been a traditional hitmaker, but, for Keen, indeed “The Road Goes on Forever.”
8 p.m. Jan. 27. $27.50 (advance) and $30 (day of the show). Variety Playhouse, 1099 Euclid Ave. N.E., Atlanta. 404-524-7354, ticketmaster.com.
