EVENT PREVIEW
The Beach Boys (with John Stamos)
John Stamos’ moonlighting gig with the Beach Boys is now nearing three decades — though Stamos looks about the same as he did in 1988’s “Kokomo” video — and he’s back with the band for a spate of shows including Saturday’s gig at the Fred in Peachtree City.
In a recent interview with Alabama Media Group’s AL.com, Stamos (who also plays with the Beach Boys in Huntsville on Friday) explained that he plays drums for about half of the show and moves to the congas for songs such as “Kokomo,” “Disney Girls” and “Then I Kissed Her.” The multi-hyphenate also wields guitar and sings on a few songs, including “Forever,” which fans of “Full House” might recall being performed on the show with the Beach Boys (long live Uncle Jesse!).
Stamos is no stranger to Atlanta; last year he joined the cast of the USA Network’s “Necessary Roughness,” the Atlanta-filmed series starring Callie Thorne as a sports psychotherapist. Unfortunately, despite Stamos’ presence, a fancy new set and a retooling of the show, “Roughness” was canceled after last summer’s third season.
The Beach Boys played Chastain in April 2012 with Brian Wilson, who, that year’s Grammy performance aside, hadn’t graced the stage with bandmates Al Jardine, Dave Marks, Bruce Johnston and cousin Mike Love since 1996 or toured with them in 46 years.
Wilson isn’t part of this tour, but the Beach Boys will offer a nearly 30-song set list of hits including “Surfer Girl,” “Don’t Worry Baby,” “I Get Around,” “Help Me Rhonda,” “God Only Knows” and, yes, “Kokomo.”
