R&B singer-songwriter John Legend sold out the Fox Theatre in Atlanta on Feb. 3, 2009 while on his "Evolver" World Tour.

John Legend is a five-time Grammy winner known who has played the piano since he was 4. He started out playing gospel music in Ohio, playing piano and singing in church.

He is a self-described nerd. He has said that he fielded scholarship offers from Harvard, Georgetown and Morehouse before settling on the University of Pennsylvania. He became a strategic management consultant after graduation in 1999.

Legend has worked with producers Kanye West and will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas.

Legend has developed a "habit of bluntness," according to The New York Times, which described a time in 2006 when a caller to a radio station told the singer-songwriter that he'd written a song for him: "Legend responded by noting that he writes his own - thanks, but no thanks. After meeting later with some fans, he said some had treated him like a commodity and acted as if he owed them something. What he owed them, he said, was great music, pure and simple."

This month he'll also be performing at the Radio City Music Hall and the Apollo Theater, which are both in New York.

Estelle opened for John Legend. According to johnlegend.net, he launched his own record label, HomeSchool Records and the first artist recorded under the HomeSchool label was Estelle.

John Legend's younger brother Vaughn Stephens also helped open the show. John Legend's original surname is Stephens. Legend once told The New York Times that he chose his stage name quite deliberately: "I said, 'Let me go out and make the best music I can and maybe, after my career is over, I've lived up to the name."
