Dave Matthews band rocks Lakewood

Stirring sounds fill summer night

The Dave Matthews Band, with opening act Gomez, performed for a sold-out crowd at Lakewood Amphitheater in July.

LeRoi Moore, who was injured in an ATV accident on June 30, was unable to travel with the band when it visited Lakewood in July. He died Tuesday, Aug. 19, of complications from the injuries. In this May 2005 photo he is performing with the Dave Matthews Band at New York's Roseland Ballroom.

Bela Fleck and the Flecktones saxophonist, Jeff Coffin, sat in with the band on tour while LeRoi Moore was trying to recover from his injuries in an ATV accident.

The band went out of its way to acknowledge the absence of saxophonist LeRoi Moore, who was injured in an ATV accident shortly before the Lakewood show.

The Dave Matthews Band's set list had the show starting wtih the song "Bartender" and ending with "Tripping Billies."

The band maintains its fan base by frequent touring, but they're also staunch advocates for preserving record stores across the country.

Violinist Boyd Tinsley gives the show a country/classic flair.

Matthews leads the Lakewood crowd in singing "Everyday."

Bassist Stefan Lessard seems to enjoy the show as much as the fans do.

The group Gomez warmed up the crowd.

"Crash Into Me" and "Ants Marching" were part of the band's encore.

Avishai Schlesinger (left) and Ezra Kaplan, both from Memphis, are following the DMB summer tour around. Lakewood is their sixth stop so far.
