Country music legend George Jones and the Jones Boys treated fans to an evening of hits Friday night at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Marietta. The year 2007 marks Jones' 52nd year in country music as well as his 38th year at the Grand Ole Opry.

George Jones, nicknamed The Possum, has won two Grammys. The first, in 1981 for his performance of 'He Stopped Loving Her Today' and the second, in 1999, for 'Choices.' He has won numerous awards throughout his career beginning in 1956 as Billboard Magazine's 'Most Promising New Country Vocalist' to his 1992 induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

George Glenn Jones was born in 1931 in Saratoga, Texas, the eighth child in a poor family. He was introduced to music by his mother, a church pianist, and his truck-driver/pipefitter father, who played guitar, according to his Website. He was singing at age 9, playing guitar at 11, writing his songs at 12 and had a regular spot on a Jasper, Texas, radio station by 15.

George Jones sings the hit 'Bartender Blues.' His 1980 hit, 'He Stopped Loving Her Today,' is considered by many to be the greatest country song of all time. The song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame earlier this year.

Jones has had numerous duet partners beginning with Melba Montgomery. His most famous partner may have been his ex-wife, the First Lady of Country Music, Tammy Wynette. Jones has also recorded with pop star Gene Pitney and with Ray Charles, Merle Haggard, Keith Richards and Shelby Lynne.

Jones lives in Franklin, Tenn., with his fourth wife, Nancy Jones. Also in a separate house on his property live Sherry Hohimer, his stepdaughter. Sherry's husband, Kirk, helps the George Jones tour with concert setup. Sherry and Kirk's children, (George's grandchildren) live on his property as well.

In 2003, George Jones entered the food business. He introduced a variety of 'George Jones Country Style Breakfast Sausage and Country Style Hamburger Patties,' as well as a line of Marinades and Barbecue Sauces and his own Tennessee Sipping Water, 'George Jones White Lightning.' George Jones Foods are carried in more than 10,000 supermarkets mainly in the Southeast.

George Jones' alcohol consumption was so legendary, and its impact on his reliability so marked, he was given the nickname 'No-Show Jones.'

George Jones performs Friday night at the Cobb Energy Centre. Many musicians have said they are George Jones fans, including Elvis Costello (who recorded with Jones on his My Very Special Guests LP), Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, Frank Sinatra, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Gram Parsons, Kid Rock and John Fogerty.

While experimenting as a rockabilly singer during the fifties, George Jones went by the name 'Thumper Jones.' He states in his autobiography that when he encounters these records he uses them as Frisbees.
