Coldplay brings Viva La Vida to Lakewood

British band Coldplay and opening acts Pete Yorn and Howling Bells entertained fans May 17, 2009 at Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood in Atlanta.

Coldplay brought their Viva La Vida tour to Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood on Sunday night. Lead singer Chris Martin performs "Clocks."

Martin literally wore his politics on his sleeve. A band on the Brit's sleeve spelled out Barack Obama.

Coldplay's "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends," which was released in June, won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album and was the top selling album of 2008.

Coldplay guitarist Jonny Buckland plays "Viva la Vida," which hit No. 1 in the United States and the United Kingdom and won a Grammy for Song of the Year.

Besides his musical success, Martin is known for another reason: He is married to actress Gwyneth Paltrow.

Like U2 and R.E.M. before them, the members of Coldplay equally share the profits of their music.

Martin gets close to a fan during the perfomance.

Thanks to Martin's vocals, Coldplay won a third Grammy in 2008 for Best Vocal Pop Performance by a Duo or Group.

Howling Bells was the first act on the bill. The band and Coldplay have a common tie. Producer Ken Nelson has worked on albums for both.

Fans couldn't help but sing along to Coldplay.

Even when bathed in purple light, fans seemed to enjoy the concert.
