Atlanta’s filming scene remains robust, with a number of new projects rolling now or set to start soon.
Selena Gomez, Bryan Cranston, James Franco and Robert Duvall are among the stars assembling for "In Dubious Battle," based on the John Steinbeck novel.
It will film in metro Atlanta in locations including Senoia, home of “The Walking Dead” filming.
Gomez has been in Atlanta recently filming "The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving" with Paul Rudd. Duvall has been here in the past for projects including the Billy Bob Thornton movie "Jayne Mansfield's Car."
"In Dubious Battle," which Franco is directing, also will star Vincent D'Onofrio, Ed Harris and Danny McBride.
"Guardians of the Galaxy 2″ also will film in Atlanta, director James Gunn revealed during recent a Q&A with fans on his Facebook page.
In response to a question about whether he will appear at the next Dragon Con, he wrote, “Maybe. I’m gonna try. Because we’re filming in Atlanta, I hope it works out for my schedule.”
He also extolled his working relationship with Marvel. In response to a question about whether he had creative control with the first “Guardians” movie, he said he felt like he had even more this go-round.
“We have a really great relationship where they let me go and do my thing, and I truly listen to their notes and ideas,” Gunn wrote. “I’ve never been told to put in any character or plot element at all. I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve read stuff on the Internet from people who think they understand how Marvel works, when they don’t at all. When they trust you — and I think I’ve earned their trust over the past few years — they give you a wide berth. I truly love them and love working with them. Like a good marriage, we just fit.”
It’s a good bet the sequel will headquarter at the huge and expanding Pinewood Studios facility in Fayette County. “Ant-Man” filmed there last year, and “Captain America 3” is on deck next.
Other new projects include "Brothers in Atlanta," an HBO pilot starring Maya Rudolph and Jaden Smith. It's been filming in downtown Atlanta recently.
Finally, a new ABC pilot, "The Kingmakers," starring Parminder Nagra of "ER" and "The Blacklist" fame, will film in Rome later this month.
