Standout smooches on the big screen

I honor of Valentine's Day, a look at some memorable movie kisses, including "From Here to Eternity" and "Lady and the Tramp."

What comes to mind when you think of best movie kisses? Do you want to see a passionate embrace or something sweeter? How about location, or weather? We give you a few on-screen moments to consider. 'Jerry Maguire' proves it's sexy when the woman makes the first move. At the end of their date, Dorothy (Renee Zellweger) grabs Jerry (Tom Cruise) behind the neck, pulls him toward her and kisses him. Jerry takes over from there, and things move to the bedroom.

One of the more famous kissing scenes occurs in 'From Here To Eternity.' Army Sgt. Warden (Burt Lancaster) and Karen Holmes (Deborah Kerr) share an adulterous kiss on a deserted beach as the waves crash over their bodies. Afterward, Karen says, 'I never knew it could be like this. Nobody ever kissed me the way you do.' Now doesn't everyone wish his or her lover would say that?

One of the sweetest kisses of all is in a cartoon? It's true. In 'Lady and the Tramp,' the canine couple chews on opposite ends of the same noodle, and their lips meet unexpectedly in the middle. The pedigreed cocker spaniel turns her head away, then the gentlemanly mutt offers her one of his meatballs. Awwww. A scene like that should make Valentine's reservations at Italian restaurants skyrocket.

'You like me because I'm a scoundrel.' That's what Han Solo (Harrison Ford) tells Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) in 'The Empire Strikes Back.' She objects, saying she likes nice men. He says he's a nice man. She begins to protest again but is cut off by his passionate kiss, which almost makes her faint. The moment makes us weak in the knees, too.

We've all been there. That moment where you desperately want to lock lips with someone but fight the urge to do so. And then you lose the battle. George (James Stewart) goes through the same thing as he and Mary (Donna Reed) squeeze in to listen to a phone call in 'It's a Wonderful Life.' When he can no longer take it, he drops the phone, yells at her and then, as she begins to cry, succumbs to temptation and passionately kisses her all over her face.

Is there a doctor in the house? A love doctor that is.Will Smith was as title character in the romantic comedy "Hitch." Luckily, Eva Mendes was around to help him out. Their sex appeal oozed off the screen like ... you fill in the blank.

Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose (Kate Winslet) find love on the decks of the 'Titanic.' As the two float in the icy Atlantic waters after the ship has sunk, he kisses her, and she promises to never let him go before he dies. Now who needs a Kleenex?

Sometimes you just have to switch things up. So take a leotard-clad superhero, hang him upside down and add in some rain, and what do you get? The sexy moment Spider-man (Tobey Maguire) and Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst) share in 'Spider-Man.'

It's not the ending you would expect in a movie called 'Four Weddings and a Funeral.' As they stand in the rain, Charles (Hugh Grant) proposes to Carrie (Andie MacDowell). 'Do you think -- after we've dried off, after we've spent lots more time together -- you might agree not to marry me? And do you think not being married to me might maybe be something you could consider doing for the rest of your life?' Carrie accepts, and they seal it with a passionate kiss.

Sometimes words can be just as powerful as the act itself. Need proof? In 'Bull Durham,' Annie (Susan Sarandon) asks Crash (Kevin Costner) what he believes in. 'I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days.' Oh my.

Westley (Cary Elwes) and Buttercup (Robin Wright Penn) share many intimate moments throughout 'The Princess Bride,' but their last kiss, well, we'll let the grandfather who serves as the film's narrator tell you about it. 'Since the invention of the kiss there have been five kisses that were rated the most passionate, the most pure. This one left them all behind.'
