"Taken 3" is in action in Atlanta this week. Stars Liam Neeson and Forest Whitaker filmed a key scene at Stone Soup Kitchen on Woodward Avenue, just east of downtown, on Tuesday. Crew members spent Monday setting up. Things went mercifully well given the crazy weather Atlanta had earlier in the week.

"We're glad the weather held out," Stone Soup owner Sarah Rick said. "One of the crew members asked, 'What's your tornado plan?' I said, 'Tornado plan?' She said, 'I'm going to need one.' I said, 'Well, we'll make one!'"

Rick's husband, John Rick, is a contractor who is working on a home with a sturdy basement close to the restaurant. Tornado plan solved.

“I was really impressed with all the people” who worked on the project, Sarah Rick said. “Hardworking people. It was amazingly organized for having 70-some people descend on this small little place. I don’t really know how they picked the location, but they started talking to us a couple of months ago.”

“Taken 3” also has been filming in Midtown, and will film in Buckhead next. Rick didn’t get to meet the actors but was able to watch the filming.

“I’m not going to say a thing about the scene they filmed,” she said, but did reveal some of the on-set practices she picked up. It’s important that the actors not get distracted while the cameras are rolling, for example.

“They don’t want to make eye contact while they’re acting, so everybody gets down and turns their back,” Rick said. “I’ve learned a lot.”

The cafe was able to get back to business quickly and enjoying its moment of stardom.

“It was a really nice experience,” Rick said. “We opened for business on Wednesday; they had put everything right back where it was. They were just wonderful.”

Jack Black movie heading to Madison

The Jack Black movie "Goosebumps" needs extras who can either run fast or not move at all. Plus, people with cars and people without. How's that for a wide-open window of opportunity? Casting folks are seeking extras who can play mimes, football players and townsfolk either with or without wheels. This is for work to be done in Madison on May 19, 22 and 29.
