Morgan Freeman: Actor for the ages

Oscar-winning actor seriously injured in car wreck

In 2005, Freeman posed with his Oscar for best supporting actor in "Million Dollar Baby" along with Jamie Foxx, who won best actor for "Ray."

In 1994, Freeman showed his penchant for commandeering scenes from lead actors like Tim Robbins in "The Shawshank Redemption."

One of the most endearing performances in Freeman's accomplished career was his portrayal of a stoic Southern chauffeur in 1980's "Driving Miss Daisy," with Dan Aykroyd and Jessica Tandy.

Freeman's resume is packed with appearances in action flicks, such as his 1997 turn with Christian Slater in "Hard Rain."

Freeman's authoratative presence made him a natural to play the Creator himself in the 2003 Jim Carrey farce "Bruce Almighty."

Freeman successfully reprised his role as God opposite Steve Carell in the 2007 comedy, "Evan Almighty."

Freeman's appeal to generations of film-goers was evident in 2007's "Gone Baby Gone."

In 2005, Freeman starred with Jack Nicholson as two aging men taking on death-defying challenges in "The Bucket List."

Morgan Freeman's most recent major public appearance -- before his serious accident on a Mississippi roadway on August 3 -- was at the July 14 premiere of "The Dark Knight" with his granddaughter Edina.
