British author JK Rowling arrives in Trafalgar Square.

Harry Potter fans gather in Trafalgar Square in central London for the premiere of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2." Braving rain that made it almost impossible to sleep, the fans took shelter under large umbrellas to mark their spot.

Actress Evanna Lynch arrives. She plays Ravenclaw student Luna Lovegood.

Actress Emma Watson, who plays Hermione Granger, one of Harry's best friends, poses with fans.

Actress Helena Bonham Carter sported her signature off-kilter style at the premiere. She plays Bellatrix Lestrange.

Some fans travelled thousands of miles -- including fans from America, Japan and Mexico -- for the event.

"It's really exciting. It's my first premiere," said one fan. "I'm a longtime Harry Potter fan and I'm really excited to see Rupert Grint walk on the red carpet."

Actor Alan Rickman -- who plays Professor Severus Snape -- arrives at the premiere.
