20th anniversary of 'Do the Right Thing'

THIS YEAR marks the 20th anniversary of Spike Lee's race-relations movie "Do the Right Thing." Among the stars are John Turturro, Danny Aiello and Richard Edson, who run a family-owned pizzeria.

ATLANTA-BORN and Morehouse-educated director Spike Lee (right, with his wife, Tonya Lewis Lee) directed and acted in the 1989 movie about racial conflicts in sweltering Brooklyn. Spike Lee will appear in Atlanta for the movie's showing at the Fox Theatre July 11.

HERE ARE character actor Richard Edson as Vito and Spike Lee as Mookie.

RUBY DEE played the matron of Bedford-Stuyvesant, "Mother Sister."

DANNY AIELLO played the embattled but proud pizzeria owner Sal, whose restaurant was the center of the film's action.

REMEMBER PINO, Sal's hotheaded son? He was portrayed by John Tuturro.

SAMUEL L. JACKSON was a radio deejay, "Mister Senor Love Daddy" (that's a mouthful for a radio handle!).

LEE WAS surrounded by family and friends at the screening, including his father, Bill Lee (who wrote the film's score) ...

... and his actress sister, Joie, who also played his sister Jade in the movie.

AFTER HIS family moved from Georgia, Spike Lee grew up in the Bedford-Stuyvesant part of Brooklyn.
