“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?” — the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

Metro Atlanta residents get a chance each year to respond to the challenge King left us when Hands On Atlanta puts on its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. The nonprofit coordinates work across the area as volunteers pitch in to paint, plant, fix, repair, clean up and generally improve their communities and community infrastructure.

“For Monday, we are expecting more than 3,000 v0lunteers,” said Raquel Hudson, Hands On’s associate director of corporate volunteerism.

“There are more than 60 project sites that range from schools and nonprofits and community agencies as well as a lot of Atlanta parks and nature preserves,” she said.

Volunteers for this year’s day of service, the 19th, will also work at civil rights sites and other locations, she said.
