R. Kelly: 5 things to do this week in Atlanta

Send off 2016 in style!

This is officially the last full week of the year, but there are still plenty of fun things to do throughout metro Atlanta.

From Snow Mountain to a holiday-themed R. Kelly concert, here are five things to do this week:

Snow Mountain

Grab your friends and family and head down Avalanche Alley, a 400-foot tubing hill, when part of popular Stone Mountain Park is transformed into Snow Mountain. Kids ages 3 and under can join in on the tubing fun in a safe way at Bunny Slope, where smaller snow hills were created just for them.

Enjoy more than 20 tubing slides at the snow park, which is set up at Stone Mountain’s Laser Lawn. Visit SnowZone and build a snowman or igloo, or head to the Snowball Shootin’ Gallery. A new Snowball Zone will provide a space for kids to have the ultimate snowball fight before winding down with a bonfire, roasted marshmallows and s’mores.

Weather conditions may limit or cancel Snow Mountain activities. Visit Stonemountainpark.com or call 1-800-401-2407 before heading to the park.

Children under 16 require adult supervision.

Times vary. Nov. 19-Feb. 26 (select dates). $28 (plus tax) for just Snow Mountain. Laser Lawn at Stone Mountain Park, 100 Robert E. Lee Blvd., Stone Mountain. 1-800-401-2407, Stonemountainpark.com.

Try a new(ish) restaurant

From 101 Steak in Cobb County to Noble Fin in Gwinnett County and the previously mentioned City Winery in Atlanta, there were a plethora of restaurant openings throughout 2016 in metro Atlanta.

The AJC's food and dining team compiled a list of (nearly) all of this year's restaurant openings by county. Pick one (or two or three) and treat yourself this week.

Joi

Spend the day after Christmas enjoying an eclectic show from neo-soul singer Joi. The singer, known for her solo work, as well as her work with artists such as Outkast and Goodie Mob, will perform at City Winery on Dec. 26.

She is preparing to independently release her fifth album.

8 p.m. Dec. 26. $25-$40. City Winery, Ponce City Market, 650 North Ave., Atlanta. Citywinery.com.

R. Kelly’s first Christmas tour will visit Atlanta this week. The R&B singer recently released his first holiday album, “12 Nights of Christmas.” The project features a dozen new original songs.
