Are your kids unusually talented and good looking? Of course they are. Would you like everyone to see their talented little selves in a movie? Of course you would.
Here’s how that can happen.
A big-screen adaptation of "Goosebumps," starring Jack Black, will film in Atlanta soon. The project needs a bunch of teen extras and someone for one specifically featured role.
Casting takes place Saturday in the Creek View Room of the Courtyard Atlanta Airport West, 3400 Creek Pointe Drive, in East Point. Prospects for the role of “Dwayne,” which casting folks describe as “a naturally funny young man whose size is that of a football star,” will be seen from noon until 2 p.m. Teen guys of any ethnicity are welcome.
Other teen girls and boys should report from 3 to 5 p.m. Everyone should bring a current, nonreturnable photo and all prospective young stars must be at least 16. No exceptions.
Black has spent time in Atlanta before. In 2011, he teamed up with Zoo Atlanta for a naming ceremony for a panda cub born that year. The male cub was christened Po, after the character voiced by Black in "Kung Fu Panda."
Holy Innocents’ teacher excited about new film
Joe Conway's film and broadcast journalism students at Holy Innocents' Episcopal School in Sandy Springs are learning from a true pro. Conway's new film, "Things People Do," just debuted at the Berlin International Film Festival.
He co-wrote the film with Saar Klein, who also directed and is known for work on films including "The Bourne Identity" and "Almost Famous." Sarah Green, known for work on "The Tree of Life" and "Mud," served as a producer.
In "Things People Do," Wes Bentley stars as Bill Scanlin, "a middle-class guy with a white-picket fence existence, who loses his job during the Great Recession," Conway said. "He goes off and pretends to go to work every day even though he's about to lose the house, the car, everything. He gets so desperate that he gets a gun and starts robbing people."
Scanlin’s neighbor, a cop, is on the case, and when another man is accused of his crimes, Scanlin must decide whether to let the innocent guy take the fall or face up to the truth.
“‘Things People Do’ has much to recommend,” The Hollywood Reporter said after the Berlin screening.
The movie filmed in Albuquerque, N.M., and is set for a screening at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, next month. As for an Atlanta debut, stay tuned.
