While major museums and attractions have been hosting Black History Month events throughout this month, there are plenty of smaller events going on throughout metro Atlanta, too.

Our weekly roundup of things to do this weekend highlights a local book discussion that will serve as a great way to learn something new this month, while reflecting on how history shapes the present and future.

Alvin Ailey

Late choreographer Alvin Ailey’s contributions to modern dance and choreography is currently on display at the Fox Theatre through the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s performance of the critically acclaimed “Revelations,” a work that incorporates blues, spirituals and gospel.

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus

If you don't want to travel to Duluth to see "The Greatest Show on Earth," there are a few more opportunities to catch the circus at Philips Arena.

The circus will close permanently in May.

Orchid Daze

Thousands of orchids are now on display at Atlanta Botanical Garden as a part of the Atlanta attraction’s annual Orchid Daze exhibit.

Orchid Daze opened last weekend as a part of the garden’s Valentines in the Garden.

Free Black History Month Book Discussion

Auburn Avenue Research Library will host a free book discussion on Tina Maria Dunkley's "The Merkins, Forgotten Freedom Fighters in the War of 1812." Dunkley will appear at the event to talk about her book, which sheds light on the African slaves who fought for the British Royal Navy in the War of 1812 and their descendants.

Highball

Looking for a fun way to socialize and benefit a local museum?

High Museum of Art’s Highball 2017 will offer craft cocktail samples, snacks, music and more. 15 bartenders will vie to secure the most votes from attendees by delivering their best cocktail creations.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the High Museum.
