Georgia Music Hall of Fame honors diverse musicians

The state's Music Hall of Fame will bestow honors on six acts Saturday night.

The 29th Annual Georgia Music Hall of Fame Awards will be handed out Saturday night at the Georgia World Congress Center. Lynyrd Skynyrd, seen here practicing before Super Bowl XXXIX in 2005, is one of the inductees.

LYNYRD SKYNYRD: Their 65 albums have sold more than 30 million copies, and their triple-lead-guitar sound is legendary.

USHER: He sings, he dances, he acts, he stars on Broadway, and on Thursday at Macy's in Lenox Square, he'll even be selling his own fragrance.

FREDDY COLE: The Grammy-nominated vocalist and pianist has distinguished himself internationally from his more famous sibling and niece.

MYLON LEFEVRE: Surely, having your first song ("Without Him") recorded by Elvis Presley qualifies.

JOHNTA AUSTIN: At 16, he wrote a hit R&B ballad for Tyrese ("Sweet Lady"). And Mary J. Blige, Toni Braxton, Jessica Simpson and others have since summoned him to the studio.

BABS RICHARDSON: In addition to providing a recording facility for artists, she was executive director of the regional chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, which puts on the Grammys. She also helped launch the Grammy in the Schools program in Georgia.
