Hot Rod Walt and the Psycho Devilles at the Alamo
With his ample sideburns, often shimmering stage duds and lubricated pompadour, Walt Richards doesn’t have to strum a chord to let you know he’s about to rip into some rockabilly. Richards and the rest of his early rock power trio are set to do just that at this former movie theater. The venue’s massive stage will allow the band plenty of room for the stand-up bass and Richards’ guitar hero stage moves. Don’t be surprised to see Alamo patrons busting some retro dance steps themselves. They can refuel at the full bar and munch on Fabiano’s pizza.
9:30 p.m. June 28. $10. The Alamo, 19 W. Court Square, Newnan. 770-683-2526.
Yacht Rock Schooner at Earl Smith Strand Theatre
Atlanta’s Yacht Rock Revue is a definite anomaly. What started out as a kitschy, smooth ’70s tribute act is now sailing on the next level and drawing the masses. The group sometimes finds itself playing alongside some of the musicians it covers, including Gary Wright and Starbuck. You can hardly attend a local music festival or special event without seeing Yacht Rock Revue on the bill. Arguably oversaturated? Maybe, but the demand is so strong the band sometimes has to be at two places at once. That’s when Yacht Rock Schooner comes into play. This leaner version of its bigger brother tackles gigs, too, including an upcoming stand at the Strand. Expect them to fill the hall with Hall & Oates, Doobie Brothers, Bee Gees and more.
8 p.m. June 29. $12 in advance; $15 day of the show. Earl Smith Strand Theatre, 117 N. Park Square, Marietta. 770-293-0080.
