“Argo” at Stone Mountain-Sue Kellogg Library

If you missed “Argo,” director and star Ben Affleck’s Oscar-winning docudrama, on the big screen, you have another chance. As part of its New Movie Series, the Stone Mountain-Sue Kellogg Library will be offering a special matinee screening of the film. Affleck plays Tony Mendez, a CIA agent who creates an elaborate hoax in order to rescue a group of American diplomats trapped in Tehran, Iran, during the peak of the Iranian Revolution. The film is rated R, so think twice before bringing the kiddies.

Sham Rock and Roll Party at Meehan’s Public House

St. Paddy’s drops a bit early with this event. It kicks off with guests cheering on the volunteers participating in the St. Baldrick’s fundraiser. The participants, who have raised money to fight childhood cancer, will have their heads shaved. Live music comes from Bogey & The Viceroys (5-6:30 p.m.), Kingsized (7-8:30 p.m.) and Breakfast Club (9-10:45 p.m.). Other activities and entertainment include authentic Irish bagpipers, a life-size Jenga, cornhole games and more.

The Strumpeteers, Hott Soss & Jesselah and Metropolis at Sweetwater Bar and Grill

Local music fans get a potpourri of sounds at this popular live music joint. The Strumpeteers tap into their jam band roots. Hott Soss & Jesselah fuse rock and contemporary R&B with female lead vocals. Metropolis draws inspiration from progressive rock pioneers including Rush and Pink Floyd. The venue also has an edible lineup, too, so guests can nosh while soaking up the soundtrack.
