From wings to wine: 10 Atlanta festivals happening in January

The month of January is heating up in Atlanta with festivals to warm the heart, and apparently the city.

From wine and beer to a music festival and pop-up Polaroid party, here are 10 festivals to keep you busy this month:

In Dreams: A One Day Music Festival & Pop-Up Polaroid Party

8 p.m. Jan. 10, The Bakery, 825 Warner St. Atlanta, www.freshtix.com.

Atlanta's coolest multi-faceted arts complex, The Bakery, is hosting a one-of-a-kind One Day Music Festival & Pop-Up Polaroid Party. Dreamy tunes will be supplied by local bands Rose HotelAvery Leigh's Night PalaceTrue Blossom and others. And for those wanting to taste more, hop on over to the art gallery to experience a pop-up Polaroid party. Tickets are just $10 and all ages are welcome.

Atlanta Winter Wine Festival

Noon-4 p.m. and 6-10 p.m, Jan. 18, City Winery, 650 North Ave, NE. #201, Atlanta, www.atlantawinefestivals.com.

There are two sessions of the Atlanta Winter Wine Festival to keep you warm and fuzzy; one from noon to 4 p.m. and another from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. There will be more than 50 wines, beers, and ciders to drink along with live music. Festival tickets are $45 in advanced, $50 after Jan. 9, and $60 day of the event.

Pontoon Brewing's 2nd Anniversary

1-8 p.m. Jan. 18, Noon to 6 p.m. Jan. 19, Pontoon Brewing Company, 8601 Dunwoody Place #500, Sandy Springs, www.eventbrite.com.

Pontoon Brewing is turning two. Over two days, the Sandy Springs brewery welcomes its fans for a festival of beer. One new beer on tap, a tropical creamsicle sour called Glazed, was made in concert with the brewery's favorite band, Tennessee's *repeat repeat. "We aren't an ordinary band, and Pontoon is not an ordinary brewing company," the band explains on their website. "They take a fresh approach to beer and flavor profiles and bring excitement into each type of beer they brew". Come out and show support for this local brewery for their second anniversary.

Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday Celebration

11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Jan. 20, The Children's Museum of Atlanta, 275 Centennial Olympic Park Dr. NW, Atlanta, www.childrensmuseumatlanta.org.

Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday Celebration at The Children's Museum of Atlanta is just one of the many ways to celebrate a man so important to Atlanta as well as the world. Bring the kiddos by from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on January 20 for special programming such as MLK Day Reader's Theater and other hands on activities.

9th Annual Smyrna Oysterfest

Doors open at 7 p.m. Jan. 24, 11 a.m. Jan. 25, Noon, Jan. 26, Atkins Park Smyrna, 2840 Atlanta Rd. SE, Smyrna, www.smyrnaoysterfest.com.

This Mardi Gras-themed Oysterfest will take place at Atkins Park in Smyrna. There will be plenty of raw, grilled, and fried oysters with the promise of plenty of Abita beer and New Orleans-inspired music.

Tickets are $15 in advance for both days or $8 for one, tickets will be $12 per day at the door. Admission for ages 12 & under are free.

ATL Wings Pub Crawl

1-5 p.m. Jan. 25, Midtown Atlanta, www.slinginwingsfestival.com.

Atlanta is known for some of the best wings around; hop on this pub crawl and taste for yourself. Just make sure to order yours lemon pepper wet. Tickets include a wing passport for 10 chicken wings for five crawl stops, your first beer and a souvenir event cup. A portion of event proceeds will benefit Releash Atlanta.

Atlanta Lunar New Year Festival

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 25-26, Chinese Culture Center, 5377 New Peachtree Rd, Chamblee, www.facebook.com.

The Atlanta Lunar New Year Festival has been held annually for the last 30 years to celebrate the Lunar New Year celebration. Festivities include dragon dance, lion dance, traditional Taiwan night market food and more.

Atlanta Braves when Chop Fest

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 25, SunTrust Park and The Battery Atlanta, 755 Battery Ave. Atlanta, www.travelcobb.org.

Celebrate your back-to-back National League East Champions, the Atlanta Braves, at Chop Fest. All across SunTrust Park and The Battery Atlanta there will be a variety of exciting events such as player autographs and photos, unique interactive experiences, baseball clinics, on-field activities, live entertainment and much more. And the best part, admission is free.

Atlanta Jewish Life Festival

10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 26, Georgia Aquarium, 225 Baker St. NW, Atlanta, www.atlantajewishlifefestival.com.

The 2nd Annual Atlanta Jewish Life Festival is Atlanta's largest single day festival promoting and celebrating Jewish and Israeli arts, culture, music and food at the Georgia Aquarium. Connect with the community by learning about local synagogues, nonprofits and more with the hope to further strengthen the bonds and understanding of Jewish beliefs and traditions. There will be artist vendors, food vendors, a kids zone, and live performances. Ticket prices vary.

Roswell Roots: Festival of Black History & Culture Reception & Proclamation

5 p.m. Jan. 27, Roswell City Hall, 38 Hill St, Roswell, www.roswellgov.com.

Throughout the month of February celebrate Roswell's African American history and culture with the Roswell Roots Festival. There are lots of unique and fun events for everyone, starting with the opening reception and National Black History Month proclamation by Mayor and City Council at Roswell City Hall on January 27. Light refreshments and snacks will be served during reception. This event is free and open to the public.
