You don’t have to break the bank this year to celebrate the special father in your life. In fact, you can show your dad and/or the father of your children just how much they mean to you without spending a lot of money.
Whether you’re looking to celebrate on Father’s Day (Sunday, June 19) or the Saturday before, we have some great suggestions of things to do for free (at least for the fathers) around metro Atlanta.
If it’s truly the thought that counts, the amount you spend shouldn’t matter.
Fly fishing
Sporting goods retailer Orvis is hosting its regular free fly fishing courses again this weekend. If your dad loves to be outdoors, this is a great family outing that will combine his love for nature with a fun learning experience for the entire family. From tutorials on fly casting and outfit rigging, this is a gift that he’s sure to benefit from long after the holiday is over.
Visit orvis.com/flyfishing101 to see when your nearest location is hosting its class.
Brunch at Dantanna’s
Treat your dad to brunch at popular sports bar Dantanna’s this Father’s Day. His meal will be free when you purchase another meal of equal or lesser value.
Visit the restaurant’s locations downtown (CNN Center) or in Buckhead (3400 Around Lenox Drive, Suite 304) for brunch between noon and 4 p.m., selecting from items such as Shirred Eggs in Tulips, described as “two eggs baked in crepes with Maine lobster, shrimp, and crawfish in brandy-lobster cream sauce” that is served with asparagus. The restaurant’s Sandy Springs location (6649 Roswell Road) is also participating in the special.
Juneteenth at Atlanta History Center
A trip to the museum is truly the perfect way to celebrate your history-buff dad.
Admission to the Atlanta History Center will be free for everyone on June 18 and 19, allowing museum attendees to celebrate Juneteenth. Bring the entire family to this Father’s Day weekend event for a fun and insightful history lesson. On Saturday, the Atlanta History Center will host a talk with the authors of “We Are Charleston” about the 2015 church shooting in South Carolina. On both Saturday and Sunday, attendees will hear from food writer and culinary historian Michael W. Twitty about the history of African-American cuisine. Theater performances and storytelling will also occur throughout the weekend.

Father’s Day at College Football Hall of Fame
The College Football Hall of Fame celebrated mothers by admitting them into the museum for free on Mother’s Day. Now, it’s time for fathers to be acknowledged. Visit the 94,256 -square-foot facility and register your dad’s favorite college football team to customize his museum experience.
Fathers will receive free admission and a free T-shirt with the purchase of a regular priced ticket ($19.99 for adults and $16.99 for kids, ages 3-12).

Dancing in the park
Celebrate your father with a dance party in the park. Greenhouse takes place in the Piedmont Park Pavilion this Father’s Day, and the free event will feature live sets from DJ BE, Cullen Cole, DJ Theo, DJ 1derful, Fiddy Millz, DJ Frye and DJ Yusef.
The event is from noon until 9 p.m. so it can be the main event or one of many things that you treat your father to on Sunday.
