Gusto Wood Fire Grill open
Former NFL quarterback Nate Hybl has opened Gusto Wood Fire Grill in the Brookwood Village shopping center space across from Piedmont Hospital that was most recently home to a Saigon Cafe location. The healthy food franchise in the making offers "a simple menu of wood fire grilled proteins, combined with fresh and flavorful ingredients prepared daily." Fox Brothers close Big Tex
Fox Brothers Restaurant Group (FBRG), the team behind Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q, closed Big Tex Decatur on Nov. 3. Located at 308 W. Ponce de Leon Ave., Big Tex opened in May 2011, serving Texas food inspired by the Fox brothers' home state. "Growing demand on the Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q kitchen, stimulated in part by the designation of the restaurant as the official barbecue of the Atlanta Falcons, made the decision to close Big Tex necessary," Jonathan Fox, partner of Fox Bros. Ron Eyester off ‘Top Chef’
In a baseball challenge at Boston's Fenway Park, Atlanta chef Ron Eyester lost his bid to continue on Bravo's "Top Chef" season 12. Unfortunately, Eyester pitched a baseball-sized fish croquette into a bowl of popcorn soup, and the judges, including Richard Blais and Hugh Acheson, sent him packing his knives. Eyester is the chef/owner of Rosebud, the Family Dog and Timone's in Morningside, and Diner, which is set to open at Atlantic Station soon. rosebudatlanta.com.
Kevin Gillespie’s ‘Pure Pork’
Chef Kevin Gillespie of Gunshow is set to release his new cookbook, "Pure Pork Awesomeness" (Andrews McMeel Publishing, $29.99), on March 31. "This cookbook is the culmination of my passion for pork and an exciting opportunity to share all I've learned about it over the course of my career," Gillespie said in a press release.
