Janet's Kitchen, a new concept fusing Filipino and soul food, will open from 3-6 p.m. on July 23 for a special celebration of life and tasting with complimentary food, live jazz and specialty cookies. The event is timed to honor owner Nycole Sanders' mother, Janet, who passed away in 2016. "I wanted to have an opening party on my mother's birthday to celebrate her life and vision," explained Sanders. "I created the idea for soul food with a Filipino twist while cooking with my mom and husband during the holidays and I thought this would be a great fusion." 1359 Clairmont Road, Decatur. 404-549-7808, facebook.com/janetskitchenatlanta.
