Rising Son in Avondale

Rising Son, the new restaurant from Hudson Rouse and Kathryn Fitzgerald Rouse, officially opened on March 29 in the Avondale Estates storefront space formerly occupied by the Bishop. Hudson Rouse is the former chef at popular Reynoldstown breakfast and lunch spot Home Grown, and Kathryn Fitzgerald Rouse is the creator of craft sodas for the General Muir and Yalla. At Rising Son, the husband-and-wife team is serving breakfast all day, starting at 8 a.m., with lunch plates, including Southern-style meat-and-three, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. 124 N. Amer open in Inman Park

Amer, the new cocktail bar from partners Brian Lewis and the late David Durnell of Atlanta's Bocado restaurant, opened late last week in the Inman Quarter mixed-use development in Inman Park. Shanna Mayo (Victory Sandwich Bar, SOS Tiki Bar, Leon's Full Service) is the new partner/GM and bar manager, overseeing a menu that includes some 20 house cocktails, plus beer, wine and after-dinner digestifs. Bocado chef Adam Waller created the bar snacks and small plates menu, which features oysters and the likes of beef carpaccio with arugula, pickled red onion, Parmesan and olive oil. 299 N. Morningside Kitchen open

Morningside Kitchen, the new concept from Tom Murphy and the team behind Murphy's in Virginia-Highland and Paces & Vine in Vinings, officially opened for dinner last week in the former Rosebud space in Morningside. The team includes culinary director Ian Winslade, managing partner Tom Harvey, chef de cuisine Bhavesh Patel, and beverage director Dan Givens. On the menu are wood-grilled octopus, rotisserie chicken, hanger steak, and a market-priced fish of the day, plus house cocktails, sangria and beer on draft. Look for weekend brunch soon. 1397 N. Shake Shack at Perimeter

Shake Shack is set to open its second Georgia location at Perimeter Mall later this year. The wildly popular Manhattan export, known for the ShackBurger, Flat-Top Dogs and frozen custard concretes, opened its first Georgia location at the Shops Buckhead Atlanta high-end retail and restaurant project in September 2014.
