New 5&10 Athens location open

On July 10, chef Hugh Acheson's 5&10 moved into its new, fancier home in a historic house on South Milledge Avenue in Athens. The restaurant is offering light lunch, dinner and brunch in a remodeled space that features three dining rooms, a bar and a coffee counter. Meanwhile, Acheson revealed to the Athens Banner-Herald that he has big plans for the original 5&10 location on South Lumpkin Street. Look for a locally inspired Mexican spot, tentatively called Cinco y Diez, with former Farm 255 chef Whitney Otawka in the kitchen. 1073 S. Timone’s set to open in Morningside

Ron Eyester, chef/owner of Rosebud and the Family Dog, has been busy previewing his third Morningside restaurant, Timone's, for press and friends and family. The New York-style "local pizza joint" is located in the short-lived Waffold space on the same Highland Avenue block as Rosebud. Look for starters like baked clams and fried calamari and red sauce favorites like meatballs and eggplant Parmesan, with beer and wine on draft at the bar. 1409 N. Kevin Rathbun Steak among ‘20 Best’

On July 12, The Daily Meal published America's 20 Best Steakhouses with Atlanta's Kevin Rathbun Steak at No. 5 on a list that includes Peter Luger in New York and Bern's in Tampa. Rathbun called the news "fantastic." Chef Hector Santiago headed to Abattoir

Former "Top Chef" contestant Hector Santiago is the new executive chef at Abattoir, the meaty restaurant from Bacchanalia chefs/owners Anne Quatrano and Clifford Harrison. Santiago was the chef/owner of a trio of popular Poncey-Highland Latin concepts, Pura Vida, Super Pan Latino, and El Burro Pollo, which closed in 2012, when the lease expired on the space.
