Wish you could take a trip to Puerto Rico but can't find the time or money? Here's an event to tide you over -- and benefit a good cause in the process -- until you can get the real thing.
Experience Puerto Rican culture with authentic food, dance, and music from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25 at Ponce City Market.
Chef Hector Santiago of El Super Pan and Chef Julio Delgado of JP Atlanta will serve up a buffet of mofongo, chicharron de pollo, lechon asado, as well as several other traditional Puerto Rican recipes, and Second Self Beer Company will offer free tastings of blue ginger and lemongrass beer.
In addition to the food, Puerto Rican-born Emory professor María M. Carrión, will give a keynote speech on the culture of Puerto Rico, and dancers Tod Hansen and Massey Turpin from Academy Ballroom Atlanta will perform a medley of Latin American dances, followed by a dance class open to participants.
Proceeds will benefit Atlanta-based non-profit organization Go Eat Give, which seeks to create global citizens through cultural education, community service, and international travel, has partnered with El Super Pan, JP Atlanta, and the Puerto Rico Tourism Board to showcase
