Is a local woman America's Next Grill Star?

"Live with Kelly and Michael," seen weekdays at 9 a.m. on WSB-TV, began a search for a grill star several months ago. Thousands of entires later, Courtney Rushing, from Powder Springs, is in the finals.

"When I decided that I wanted to try out and submit my video, I looked in my refrigerator and was like, 'What do I have and what can I grill?'"

Rushing made a grilled avocado, pineapple and shrimp salsa. She calls it a salsa because it goes on everything.

"You can put it in a taco," Rushing said. "You can put it over a salad. You can put it over rice."

Rushing made the dish on the video she submitted to the show. Producers called her back the next day. Rushing advanced to the semi-final round where she squared off against eight other hopefuls. Contestants were judged on both their dish and their social media impact. Rushing advanced to the final two.

The finals were taped Thursday and will air on Friday's episode of "Live with Kelly and Michael."

"(I've made the salsa) at least 10 times," Rushing said on Monday before flying up to tape the show. "I've made it a good five times this past week."

The winner will receive a $10,000 grand prize. The other finalist will take home $2,500.

See if Rushing takes home the title Friday morning on "Live with Kelly and Michael."
